Proton (Malaysian car manufacturer) is horrendously notorious for its cars' faulty power windows. Over time, you could
bring the window down, but it'd never go back up again unless you pushed it up with your hands. |
The heating of the driver seat stopped working. The passenger seat still heats up though. |
I was riding my horseless carriage and realized that there wasn't a horse. |
Sporadically fails to work. Turning everything off and back on helps. Happens once every three months or so. |
the light/button sticks when you click it on or off, requiring you to have to jiggle it a bit to un-depress it. |
Everytime the van was started, it let out this horrible screeching noise. |
Heating on front passenger's seat has a mind of it's own. It's on and off no matter what one does. The switch has no
control on the heating. |
Broke several years ago, now I just press the lever down a bit like I'm doing a lane change for every left turn. |
Sometimes when the A/C is blowing, it will suddenly stop, then start again several seconds later. Truck has always had
this issue. Dealer says I'm a big fat liar. |
The alternator died and left me in the road awaiting a tow for 2 hours.

The headliner has fallen down from the ceiling and greatly impedes my view of the road. |
Only position "3" broke. "1", "2", and "4" were fine. |

The hubcap was only about 8" across and covered just the hub itself. I took it off to change the tire and never
bothered to put it back on. It spent the last four years of it's life wedged in between the seats as an effective
cupholder. (And every time I'd change the tire I'd curse because the rusty hub made it hard to get the wheel off.) |
I have a digital Climate control display, but the led's don't work. The blower and fans and stuff work fine...just
can't tell what the thing is set to. |

The connection seems to be broken as the forward/back, balance/fade/whatever are all in the middle. Additionally this

Settings 1 thru 4 work fine, 5 just stopped one day. Only noticed it when I warmed up the car, turned the heat to 5,
went inside for a bit, got back in the car and it was still freezing! |
Passenger side doesn't work at all. Driver side works half-heartedly. |
One day, the wipers refused to "park" at the bottom of the windshield after use. When you turn them off now, they stop
at the top of their circuit, which is annoying, as I have to look around them. Even manually pushing them back down
doesn't work---they just pop back up as soon as the car starts again. |

The "fast seatbelt" icon flashes all the time, even when my seatbelt is fastened. |
The rear window radiator thingy requires power to work. Usually, it's provided via the struts connecting the back door
to the car. In most SUVs, the design requires stretchy spring wires to be connected from the car to the window in order
to not interfere with smooth operation of the window itself.
One of those wires broke, leaving the car without a small radiator thingy. |
Skips all the time at the slightest bump, especially with burned CDs. I had it replaced once under warranty and the
replacement one started doing the same thing. |
The knob that controls Setting of A/C (Max A/C, Floor, windshield, etc) just fell off in my hand with the connecting
piece breaking. Thankfully I live in Florida so it never has to leave Max A/C anyways. |
There is a switch and indicating lights to turn the passenger airbag on or off. When the airbag is ON the light to
indicate so is NOT on. The OFF light works, and the airbag itself is OK. It's just the light. |
Car has two cupholders on the center console with a flap in the middle with a smaller hole in it. It flips between the
two cup holders to adjust to the size of the cup. The little hinge pin on one side of it broke. It's still under
warranty, but I haven't had it fixed. Don't ever buy a Forenza. Biggest car buying regret I've ever had. |
The left turn signal works, but blinks in double time. Also, when I turn the headlights on, the left arrow indicator
light is always on. |
The turn signal has never worked properly, you have to jiggle it a certain way to make it stick to indicate your turn.
It's good because it means I am the only one who can really drive my car (since no one knows the special jiggling
method). |
When you hit the down button, the window goes up, and vice versa. |
Fortunately I know how many miles I get to the tank so it's not a huge problem. Especially since they want $900 to
replace the sensor. |
When I got it back in 2002 the back window wiper fluid dispenser was busted. The tube disconnected somewhere along the
path to the back of the car, so when you go to wash the back windows, wiper fluid just pours onto the ground. |
The CD player would intermittently not work, which eventually became worse. Eventually I couldn't use it at all, and
the error broke other aspects of the audio system. I learned a rain-dance to keep the system from muting entire.
Eventually it started smelling of burning phenolic and I had it removed. |
Broke about a year after I had the car, never bothered to fix it. Haven't missed it. |
Some things don't start up automatically when the car turns on. Others don't turn off automatically when the car turns
off. It happens rarely enough that I don't expect it. Things like headlights not turning on automatically, or the radio
not shutting off unless I turn the car on and off again a few times. |
The sunroof jammed wide open. I eventually got a mechanic to jam it shut. A year later curiosity got the best of me
and I checked if the controls still worked. They do, it's still broken, but this time I just filled the gap with foam
and silicone sealant.
Incidentally, painter's tape is not waterproof. I had to take a seat out to dry out the car. I prefer the car with
the seat out. |
The tape deck didn't work in the winter. The end of tape sensor jammed on, causing the tape to continually switch
sides and occasionally eject on it's own. |
Every every time I signal left, my windshield wiper turns on. |
The light under my gear shifter (it's an automatic) burned out so in the dark I cannot see what gear I am in. I had to
learn how to count my way from park to reverse to drive. A bit annoying, but not worth paying someone to replace the
deeply-buried bulb. |

The headliner has been torn out. It wouldn't stay in it's frame and constantly drooped into sight releasing a torrent
of sun baked 25 year old insulation (read: eye destroying dust) into the car. The car was much better without the
headliner. |
Car required at least one quart of oil with every fill up. |
Power steering slowly faded and than disappeared. Not fun in an 80's steel bodied vehicle. |
The power brakes also faded out and then disappeared. I could still stop the car, it just wasn't very much fun. |

Many manual transmission cars have a feature whereby you cannot start them unless the clutch pedal is depressed. The
switch to determine whether this was the case on my car broke at some point, preventing me from operating the starter.
I unplugged the connector and shorted it with a paperclip. |

The little lever beneath the drivers' seat rusted supernaturally fast to the point it no longer turns. It had to be
locked half-open so the gas cap door could be opened manually. |
Wiring in the steering column shorted in an odd and embarassing way. Every time the car turned left, the *horn would
honk*. Had to pull out the horn relay to stop it. |
Every once in a while, the gas pedal will stick so you have to stamp down on it to accelerate. It happens unexpectedly
and startles you. And it only happens when the weather is changing: nothing on freezing days or hot days, but if it was
60 with sun yesterday and today it's 40 and foggy, it will stick. |

It came loose, and one end doesn't stay in place. I blame it on my brother's ownership of the car for the 3 previous

The little vent wont stay in place when you position it. It just plops back down, blowing air downwards and not where I
want it to go. |
The volume control has a small glitch in which it occasionally goes from adjusting the volume 1 value per click, to
several values per click, but only while increasing the volume. This means one small turn can sometimes bust your
eardrums. |
Not yet totally broken but definitely leaking, you can hear the compressor kicking in way more often than it should
really need to. |
Not a thing. WHen I traded it in, it had almost 250,000 miles on it. It could still be running for all I know.

The front-passenger door lock only unlocks under power. It does not lock under power, period. |
The left door never closes tightly anymore, you can always hear wind whistling at high speeds. This has been fixed at
the dealer twice and broken again shortly thereafter, twice. |
This creates a nice little puddle on the floor in the back seat. If anyone is thirsty enough to drink contaminated rain
water, problem solved! |
This vehicle has also, on multiple occasions, decided it doesn't want to be 4x4 any more. It revolts by bending some
vital plate in the linkage which decides whether it should be FWD, AWD, or 4WD. |
The pretty blue lights that are supposed to light up my instrument panel only work sometimes. |
This problem would manifest itself in an odd way. The car would turn over but not start, and after you let go of the
key, the dashboard gauges would wiggle and writhe like I was driving the hell out of it. It really breaks the illusion
to see the dash say 70KPH when you're sitting still. |
The power locks usually take at least two power unlocks to power unlock. On rare occasions, up to nine. |
We just left the cruise control button pressed all the time and eventually the little green light expired. |
The front right seat will no longer latch in place, or for that matter, to the floor. When you accelerate it clicks
backwards, slowly crushing the passengers behind it. If you stop too suddenly, it is capable of lifting off the floor
entirely and pitching through the windshield. This has not happened, yet. |
Every passenger I take tries to set this clock. The first to succeed will be the King of Britain. The clock itself is
fine, and slips gradually closer to correct year by year. |
The dinger that reminds me to turn off my headlights or take the keys out will work about one day a month. It's so
rare that I have to think about what that odd "ding, ding, ding" is when it decides to work. |
This was AFTER the driver side power window motor died. So my options were to crawl out the passenger side or keep the
window down to reach outside to open the door. No more drive thrus for me (food or banks)! |
The front AC works fine, although the coolant has leaked out several times. As for the rear, off is off, 1 blows medium,
2 is high, and 3 blows low. Whenever I sit in the back, the temp is always uncomfortable. |
I must have gotten a bad key batch, because I've broken 3 keys in my Nissan. When one key broke in the ignition, I
actually had to push the stump of my key against the key bits stuck in the ignition to get it to start. I got that
fixed. But the key that broke (and is still inside) the trunk lock, I just left. Now I have to get into the car and pull
the driver-side lever to open the trunk |
The control on the door worked, but from the drivers console, i could only roll it down, not up |
Every once in a while, as we drive down the road, the interior lights will start flickering on and off. I just turn the
lights off all the way until the next day, and the problem goes away for a couple of months. |
The only thing that has ever broken on my Yugo is the driver's side window crank. I replaced it with a metal one and it
has worked well since. Guess where the original plastic window crank was made: USA. ;) |
Intermittent sound. Hitting it helped.

The spring on the front cupholder to adjust to the size of the drink cup is broken. Now, like Stacy's visor, it simply
flops out to its maximum position, causing unstable drinks. |
The little lights on the inside of the doors always pop out, they still work, I just have to pop them back in. Once, one
of my headlights popped out. It also still worked. |
The turn signal stick part of the switch broke off in the steering column While I Was Making a Left Turn Through the
Oncoming Traffic Lane! I actually had to keep making a circle while trying to yank the stick out of the steering column. |
A little cloth tape in the "c" clip should keep that thing from drooping. Seeya |
The backlight for the all-digital instrument panel doesn't light, making it almost impossible to see the spedometer and
gas gague in daylight. |

My automatic transmission died at 70,000 miles. I drive like Grandma Utz too.... Honda went half-sies with me on the
replacement and gave me a 3 year warranty without me even asking them. The silver foil trim on my inside door handles
is peeling too, I've been the victim of some nasty little cuts from it. |
It broke three times, and was covered under a recall notice by Diamler-Chrysler every time. |
There's a leaf stuck in the blower motor. It makes a nostalgic baseball-card-in-the-spokes-of-my-bike sound, only much
faster. Occasionally it will stop for a couple of days. |
Got to where it just made a SUPER LOUD grinding noise and didn't actually move the antenna.. loud enough where
strangers would comment. We disconnected it and made it a manual antenna :) |
It's the best car in the world, except the 'little' things that go wrong. Front cup holder is flimsy and busted an
'arm' off... Other than the little crap, no major mechanical issues at all at almost 150k. Good trade IMHO! |
I lived without it until I accidentally hit it one day, it the supply tube in the hatch burst (without my immediate
knowledge), and the fluid leaked into the latch mechanism, seizing it up good. |
The feature to hit the button or turn the door-key to lock all the doors would work erratically. When initiated from the
driver side it would only lock the doors on that side of the car. When initiated from the passenger side it would only
lock the front set of doors and not the rear set. |
Apparently this happens very frequently. When we were car shopping we were like, "why does is this thing broken on
every VW?". Now we know why it happens and it's happened to us. And no amount of JBWeld will hold it together. |

Got off the freeway and was waiting for the light to turn green and applied the gas and the car started to stutter or
shake as if I had flat tires when I really didn't.
Speedo gets stuck at 10 mph while the RPM gauge is in the red. Eventually the transmission will finally switch to the
next gear and I am fine. |
As soon as the car warms up to normal operating temperature, the gauge spikes up to 100% red. I know that the engine is
not overheating because there is no steam coming from the engine (I've had cars that truly overheat in the past), and
at times after long trips the needle falls back down to a normal temperature, just above half. I'm too cheap to fix it! |
Made a horrible clunking when you made a turn, turned out to be a cheap 10 dollar fix by the mechanic, lucked out on

The defrost on both the front and back did not work. On the front, all the other blower controls worked but when you put
it to defrost the fuse would pop. Had it re-wired and the blower control replaced and still no luck. |
Trying to pull a small tree/weed out of my yard. Haul out the chain (which of course isn't long enough to reach) and
hook it up.
Make up the 14' shortage with nylon straps. Big mistake.
Get a running start, instead of the tree/weed popping out, it holds.
The nylon sling stretches, snaps back, and pulls the truck sidewards into a concrete wall, breaking the taillight.

It wouldn't be fair to say the CD player is broken, it just prefers to play only when it's 70 degrees out. But can you
blame it? That's when I prefer to play. |
It's a 1970 cougar so that's the least of my worries but it also means a passenger has to be let in sometimes when it

Broke clean off. I replaced it with a length of chain so you had something to grab to close the door, then purposefully
broke the driver's side one so I could put chain there, too, because it looked so cool. |
Not too big of a deal, worse in the warmer weather. The most held locations of the wheel have worn down in a weird
fashion and on occasion make my hands appear filthy. It's not all the time though. Here and there. Generally just when
I need to meet someone for the first time and shake their hand. |

Ash tray was broken when some punk (or a homeless person) broke into the car and stole the change I kept in the ash
tray. They yanked the ash tray out and broke the spring that held it in place. (They also stole every CD in my car,
along with the change, but didn't damage anything else - just the ashtray.) I think this was under warranty, but it
didn't occur to me to get this fixed. |
It's supposed to go on only if the engine is overheating, but recently it goes on when the engine is first started, or
after it's warmed up, or just at random times during the course of the day. |
THe fan belt snapped and a piece got under the cover for the drive belt of the engine, which jumped the cam out of
timing, and the cam shaft promptly snapped in twain. Gutted. |
Well, handbrake really. It still works, but not as well as it did before the handbrake failed and the car rolled
conveniently into the tree that was positioned at the hairpin bend at the bottom of the hill. |
Now I just fill up every 300 miles. |
I mean they still work, it just sounds farty when it is loud... |

The amber plastic cover for the forward passenger blinker light detached from its clasps & rolls loosely around in the
headlight housing. The blinker bulb still works but the coloured cover can't be replaced. I would have to buy an
entirely new headlight housing for a couple hundred dollars. |

About a month after buying the car, I discovered that the passenger window would roll back up crooked. It's as if there
were two "things" lifting it up from below, and one of those things broke, causing the window to come out of the
vertical track unless someone held it straight while it rose. |

I'm holding and put all my weight on the trunk lid. |
It used to go "click-pause-click-pause-click-pause-", but one day while waiting to turn left it started clicking twice
as fast, no pauses. The light blinked twice as fast, too. Stayed like that for months, then spontaneously fixed, while
waiting to turn left. It flares up occasionally now. |
The screws that hold the armrest cover on the center console have been reamed out so the armrest won't center. The
seals on the tail lights have gone bad so the lenses fill up with water. I had to drill tiny weep holes in them so the
water drains. |
Half of the lights (yes, just one side) on the dashboard are out. I can read my speed in the dark if I'm under 80, but
after that it's all a guessing game. |
It's one of those digital clicky kinda knobs, where each click of the turn is supposed to turn the volume up or down by
one... but each click, no matter which direction, has a tendency to randomly go up one, down one, up three, or down
three. It goes in the direction you want it to more often than not, but it's really annoying. |
It's not a big deal, since I'm the only one to drive the car, so it really doesn't need to be adjusted, but this is
the fourth time it's happened. |

The dashboard clock works about once a week, and when it fades back on, it's usually skipped a few minutes. Over a few
months, it goes about 11 minutes off from the actual time. The repair people replaced the battery a number of times, but
nothing's helped. |
Lifted up the ash tray cover to put some change in it and it just fell in to the center console. It would still be there
if I didn't have a stick with a magnet on the end of it. |

I could have taken this in, but got lazy. Anyway, the lid for filling gas does not snap closed anymore. I have to jam
it at an angle to keep it from popping open. |
This car had all-digital displays, which turned out to be a big problem. Most notably, the gas guage became entirely
unreliable. I ended up using the odometer instead, filling up after 200 miles instead of waiting for the gas guage to
tell me I was low. |
The light on the dash that reminds me I've engaged 4WD doesn't light up anymore. Sometimes I don't notice that the
floor-mounted lever is still pulled back until a couple days after a snow storm when turning on dry roads and the front
end bounces because I'm still in 4WD. This can be expensive because 4WD uses more gas than 2. |

Can't charge the cellphone. But, there is another power adapter in the dash, so, not worth bringing into the
dealership. |

Passenger side airbag is supposed to turn on when someone sits in the passenger side but it doesn't unless the person
is heavy (my mom-120 lbs= airbag off. My husband-250lbs= airbag on) |
The Sunvisor still works fine, but the clip which holds it in place (when you don't want it turned to the side window)
is broken, which has only one problem: when you are driving on a rough or irregular pavement, the visor rattles against
the clip. |

sometimes the odometer resets for no reason at all. i try to reset it to gauge my gas mileage when i fill up, but it

The volume/channel change buttons on the steering wheel first got a bit sticky and then stopped working altogether. |
A 1" plastic strip came off the fender part of the car, underneath the lift-gate. Tried to pop it back in a few times,
but it just comes out and flaps in the wind. Also, the thermometer which measures the outside temperature is always 54
degrees when the car starts, and takes 15-20 minutes to display the actual temperature. |
The switch is permanently "open" so that the interior lights and door chimes are always on. Had to pull the fuse,
which killed my radio and cruise control along with the door chime and interior lights. Getting into my car at night is
now creepy. |
The velcro that kept the mirror cover shut is pretty much velc-rotted. I just cut it off with scissor and now blind
random cars passing me when the sun is low on my left. |
The tinting on all windows is bubbling so bad that I cannot see out of them. I have to roll down side windows when
pulling onto crossroads. |
Something metal and sharp looking hangs down from the belly of my car like a hernia. Some of the many many men who have
glanced under my car have commented that it may be an exhaust thing. I'm only reminded of it when I go over dips and
speedbumps. Scraaaape.

The interior panel on the driver's side door has a screw loose (okay, completely gone). It drives locksmiths crazy

About once in every 5 times, the radio does not go on when I push the button. If I turn the radio back off, then turn it
on again, it invariably works as if there were never any problem. A small thing, but I would feel like a dolt taking it

I figure any thief who is watching will think it is locked. I could lock it by hand, but that's just too much trouble.

I was driving home one day when I heard a clunk and saw something black on the road behind me. I was worried that
something bad had happened, so I pulled over and took a look. It was a big hunk of black plastic, clearly from my car. I

perfectly aligned so I have to go through a really fun process to put the top up. Got it all fixed under warranty

but the problem persists. Next step is to have the dealer put an additional antennae of some type on the car, hope THAT

It works like a normal gas gauge until half a tank and then it just starts sporadically jumping between empty and full
at completely random intervals. It is apparently unfixable. |

The latch that holds the storage compartment broke on my Jetta's center console. Apparently it is a commonly broken
part. Not worth the trouble to fix though, just don't tilt the storage compartment up without holding the lid shut. |

My blinker randomly clicks even when it's not being used. It's worse in cold weather, which in MN, is pretty much all
the freaking time. There seems to be a sweet spot between 52 & 55 degrees where it doesn't click when it's not
supposed to, but I have no idea why. One of these day's I'm just going to rip the dang relay out and have no
clicky-clicky at all (and probably no turn signals) |

One day, I hit a bump, and heard a grinding noise. Turned out that the shock mount had rusted straight through, leaving
the shock itself dangling from the bottom of my car. I took it (the car, that is) to a mechanic friend of mine, who
took one look at it, and welded a new shock mount in about an hour. He only charged me US$50. |
Spun it and jammed the bumper into the radiator. Now it kinda screeches and overheats a lot. |

The knob to set the level of AC came off because the adhesive on the piece holding it on broke, and a month later, the
other heater knob did the same. I fixed it with superglue, two pennies and two dimes. Works a treat, except that I have

Why do they even put power antennas on cars? Is anyone really impressed that my antenna used to go up and down? I'm
not. I'm pissed off that I will probably have to have it replaced. I'm sure it won't be cheap because some jackass
decided the radio antenna needed a little motor in there. |

My car randomly thinks I have a door ajar when I do not and it thereby leaves the dome light on for a few seconds once I
begin to drive. It also leaves the dome light on when I turn the car off though it eventually turns off. Also in this
situation I cannot use the automatic locks, though sometimes, mid-drive, it decides my doors actually are closed and
locks the doors. |
On the way to a wedding...was fortunate enough to be 1/4 mile away from a store, where I purchased a set of $9.99
"throwaway" sockets, $3.99 screwdrivers, hose clamps, silicone, coolant, and reman water pump. In suit pants and
t-shirt, changed it out in about 45 minutes. Missed the ceremony, so I walked into the reception w/ old W/P just to
make sure they knew lateness was legit. |

This has been fixed, but it's one of my favorite quirks of our ol' Dodge Stratus. Whenever I took a sharp right turn,
the car would ding, like the low-fuel indicator type ding. We would yell "yay" whenever it happened. |
Inside the center console melted leaving a gooey fuzzy mess all over everything inside and is imposible to clean off.

Finally got unlazy, paid $65 for new links and did it myself. Jack up car, remove rear wheels, remove 4 nuts, replace
links, replace nuts, replace wheels, done. |
The odometer works, but the digital display is off about as often as on. Apparently it's a common problem in this
truck, due to a bad solder on the doohickey (technical term) that controls the display. A good tap on display usually
brings it on if I need it (never). I found a site that gave good instructions on a DIY fix, but it's low on the to-do
list. Right after "take cat to vet." |
Throughout the car, plastic parts keep breaking. Inside and out. Most aren't so necessary to require replacement, but
the loss does nothing for the look of the thing.

wheel... while driving. |
When I pull it down the blinker light just stays on without blinking. I have to turn it on and off to make it look like
it's blinking. |
That single horizontal line of frost, ice, or snow just never melted. It finally got fixed after a nasty storm sent a

This is evidently pretty common in Camaros. It got stuck within an inch of being rolled up and I could not afford to
have it fixed. I got rained on alot. Then the car died and I just let it stay dead. |
One of the two screws holding the plate popped out causing the plate to fall at a jaunty angle until a replacement screw
was sourced and secreted into the corresponding orifice. |
This car apparently came with a hub cap throwing option. I lost five hubcaps in less than 4 years. I've given up on
replacing them ($25 used, which are more likely to fly off since they are already used, or $80 from the dealer.)
My car now only has two on the driver's side. Looks fine to me. I've also had three flat tires. |
The washer pump in this car is rubbish and has now completely lost the ability to force water through the pipes. I'll
replace that, but what I'm having more trouble with is the stupid valve that directs flow to either the back or front
window, depending on which button I press. It doesn't direct water to the rear now, so pushing the rear wash button
squirts the front window. |
The rear speakers collapsed in on themselves and look like they're disintegrating. I thought it was due to the extreme
heat and sun in the Southwest U.S. where we live, but an internet search revealed that it's a common problem with
Camrys. The speakers still work though. |

The plastic hood release lever on the floor next to the driver's seat broke. Now, instead of pulling up on a plastic
handle, the operator must tightly grasp a wire and pull it sharply up to release the hood. |
Hit a moose dead on at 100 km/h. The moose didn't make it. |
Plastic fatigue where the knob has a friction fit attachment on the shaft that controls the vent selection and also on
the knob that controls temperature. I had to manufacture a metal insert that would press into the base of the knob and
grip the shaft. During extreme temp shifts, the fit becomes sloppy and the knobs fall off. |

There's a little sensor that warns when the gas cap isn't screwed in completely. It randomly stopped working once, so
I had to drive around with the "check engine" light on for a couple weeks. Luckily the dealership fixed it for free,
and gave me a complimentary oil change and checkup. |

The Civic has a device which senses if you have the correct key when you try to start it, so you can't hot-wire the
car. If you use a fake key, it won't start. Evidently my device gets drunk occasionally and doesn't recognize his
good friend the Honda key, because sometimes it takes a couple of pokes with the key to get it started. |

Bought the truck new, and the fuel gauge is only accurate until it reaches the halfway point in any given tank of gas.
The gauge will read "half full" for a long period of time, and once it barely moves below that point, you have about
two gallons of fuel remaining. The gauge is fairly accurate once it starts to move, as you have about one gallon of
fuel when the gauge reads "1/4 full" |
Germany still hates us for WWII, and sends us VW cars with faulty heater cores for purposes of revenge, and puts the
heatercore so far into the dash, that you have to dismantle the entire dashboard, radio, instrument cluster, airbags,
steeringwheel, shifter, console and A/C condensor. |
A known defect in material, but not a safety hazard, so Ford said too bad, so sad. When there's a sudden rise in
temperature from around freezing, they just crack straight up. I can't see how a quality inspection was overlooked. Did
they all call in sick that day? Anyway, I, along with everyone else with this gen. Explorer, have a very frown-inducing
flaw on the back of their trucks. |

It came off on the driver's seat and I've tried fixing it myself but it never stays. Just isn't one of those things

The UNlock still works, but you have to manually lock the driver's door before you hit the button to lock the car.
Which, for a two door car is 50% more work. |

The middle rear seatbelt attaches to the roof of the car and there's a plastic cover over it. The cover became
unattached, and now it just hangs there on the seatbelt and slides up and down freely. |
When I drive over 60 mph, I hear this horrific squeal as air seeps inside. |

It started with the driver's side door, I noticed that the bells wouldn't ding and the int. lights failed to turn on
when I opened the driver's door. A few months later, the passenger side sensor failed as well. Now, my car is unaware
when the doors are opened and thinks they are always closed. Somewhat amusing since I can arm the alarm with the doors
wide open now. |
It started out with windows that would randomly stop working, rolled down and would not go up, would not work at all.
Then the alarm started arming at random times... like when driving. It turned out it was the wiring harnesses in the
doors, they caused the wires to break and have these interesting symptoms. |
If turning faster than "1" (setting range from off to 5,) The fans squeak and grind. |
I haven't been able to apply my makeup on the way to work in about 6 years now. darn... wait, I don't even wear
makeup. |
It's just really hideous to look at... |

The oxygen sensor malfunctioned about a year out of warranty, and the shop told me it would be $300 to fix including
labor. I asked them if it was a safety issue, and they said it would probably significantly affect my gas mileage and
might even cause my car to overheat and catalytic converter to be destroyed.
I drove it that way for fifteen years with the check engine light on. |

Who needs a rear windshield wiper? The darn thing hasn't worked in years. The washer works, but it just shoots water
down the back of the vehicle. |
A common failure - the lens isn't sealed so well and water gets in and corrodes the lamp assembly. Easily fixed by
drilling two small drain holes in the bottom of the assembly. |
I put in some transmission fluid and the car just puked it right back on the ground. It was drivable, so I drove to my
favorite mechanic. They fixed it in one day. I had expected this repair for some time now. |
A car made a turn into the bike lane and knocked my rear wheel out from under me resulting in an overnight stay and
easter morning spent in the emergency room...uninsured. more bikes, less cars. cars seem to keep breaking or running
into people. |
Actually it had some help, It was broken while I was in the city hall/police station parking lot. Unfortunately, Tempe
police are too inept to even figure out which security camera should've been on. All they tell me is that they don't
leave the cameras on during the day because they have no one to watch the monitors. I feel that this is BS, since they

The Driver's door lock gets stuck. The car auto-unlocks when you put it in Park, about 50% of the time this particular
door doesn't unlock enough. Same rate of success with the wireless keyfob thingy. |
Only when I am in park, if I brace myself on the door armrest, my left front stereo goes out. |
My power steering fluid apparently was leaking. I couldn't turn left without standing up and forcing the wheel. Took it
to the shop before Thanksgiving. Didn't get it back until February. |
It only roles down about 2 inches...a real killer in the summer. 700 bucks to fix it, but my car is older than me

My gas gauge stopped working at about 160,000 miles. It basically shows 1/4 tank when empty. Getting caught off guard
by this a couple of times rather sucked! Now I reset the tripometer whenever I fill up, and fill up when it hits 300
miles or so. The car just hit 200K miles - hoping for another 100K. |
Learned the hard way.

Luckily I had driven the car for years before these kicked out, so I know roughly when I need to refuel. I'm pretty
sure the broken temperature gauge is why I've had so many problems with keeping the engine cool though. |
Well I drive home and park the car, and then later decide to go visit someone, guess what? Not going anywhere! The
designer who made the distributor (OptiSpark, seriously thats what its called) sit behind the waterpump? You have to be
a double jointed coat hanger to work on this thing!! |
A 25 cent bolt broke and the entire seat flopped backwards. I replaced the bolt to keep the seat upright. |

The turn signal relay makes the turn signal blink on and off with a clicking noise. It works just fine when I activate
the turn signal. But the relay occasionally clicks on and off rapidly when the turn signal isn't on. The noise is
annoying but not worth paying somebody to fix. |
Air conditioner requires a new fuse (for the compressor clutch mechanism, a 10 amp fuse) every couple of weeks to keep
the air conditioner operating. Fuses are cheap, compressors are expensive...I should really just bite the bullet and
doctor a fuse so it won't blow. One of these days. |
Fuel gauge leaps speedily from 1/4 tank to 1/50 tank. For a while I thought neighborhood punks were siphoning my gas.
Then I saw the fuel gauge do its thing. Oops! Apologized and baked some brownies for neighborhood punks. |

The powerpoint (cigarette lighter doo-dads) cover thingy-doos are supposed to be fancy and spring-loaded.... They are

The connection to the trunk lock keeps coming loose. I can't open it with the key but I can use the trunk release on
the door. |
The only door lock that still works is the driver door which I'm thankful for. I get in, start it up, and roll down
the passenger windows so everyone can unlock his own door. :>) |
The drainage hole on the horn would block up and rust the plate to the body of the horn. had to resort to strictly sign
language. |
After local garage replaced door handle, the interior lights, alarm system and radio fail to work. Could they have
inadvertently cut a wire? |

Stupid speed bumps in the parking garage at work. I think they broke a connection, because sometimes it flickers back
on. It causes me large amounts of stress and anger every time I look at it. |
Whatever the bolt was attached to in the wheel well rusted and disintegrated. Now we call it the "Suicide Seat." Not
for the faint-hearted. |
Something broke inside of the tape deck so it always tries to play a tape. The only solution is to leave a tape half
way in. |

The air conditioner blows red hot air. |
Poke the ceiling of your car. Fabricy, spongy, metal. The metal and spongy are perfectly fine, but the fabricy has lost
its adherence to the spongy and falls around us like a circus tent. It's macguyvered in several places - to hold up the
front edge of the fabricy, we pinned it with an earring stud I'd miraculously found in the hall a week before. Duct
tape does the rest for now. |

I get home (flat land) and the tank is a 1/4 full. Next day I get in, the tank is above 1/4, almost to 1/2 tank. Thank

The squeaky noise is almost always just below the threshold of being so annoying that replacing the stereo is worth the
hassle. What's a tape? It's like a small eight-track. |
I put the rear view mirror int position and as I drive it slowly droops until I can no longer see out the back
windshield. Very annoying. |
The complete head on my Colorado went ka-put and I was over warranty. I thought I'd be stuck with the bill but
thankfully the guys over at 355Nation.net explained that Chevy had issued a recall for this particular problem for my
year of Colorado. I took my truck into the dealer and they fixed it for free! I guess sometimes the big guys look out
for the consumers! |
The engine went while still under warranty and was replaced, all the rest has either been fixed by my husband or left
broken. Have replaced 5 power window motors, 3 headlight dimmers, oh.. and the van can NOT be aligned. I change tires
like most people change oil! |
One day, I went out to start my car, and noticed that the mirror on the passenger side was kind of loose. Not sure if
it got bumped (I had company the day before, great guy but really clumsy) or if it had been like this for a bit and I
just noticed. The mirror can still be adjusted, kind of...I have it in an okay but not the best spot for being able to
see. |

So now I get a random seatbelt "warning" even with the belt securely fastened and my tray table in the locked

First off, I have to floor the gas pedal just to start my car up, and when it finally decides to fire up, it sounds like
someone is under the hood beating on the block with a ball-peen hammer. Something tells me this isn't normal... |
The left turn signal operates at double-time, and stays on when the lights are on because one of the turn signal lights
are out. All you have to do is find and replace it. |

underneath the cloth was matress foam like material. When the cloth finally came down little foam pieces got in my hair
for months. Finally i sanded all the foam off. |

1985 BMW 325e Air conditioner compressor won't engage. Test light/volt meter indicates no + voltage getting to the
compressor to make it engage. I can hot wire a + to the compressor and it works. Can't find a blown fuse. The switch
inside has recently been replaced. |
