pair of Size 10 Converse low-top basketball shoes has been outfitted with
a set of springs to increase shock-resistance.
Crafted from the highest-quality spring steel I had, these shoes will compliment any office cube or trophy case.
|Here is an example of a single spring. There were 249 of these in the mattress. Now there are 239.
|I coiled 5 bedsprings together with some of the other bed-wire and
hot-glued them to a pair of ordinary, nearly-new black shoes.
There is a LOAD of hot glue on there, but if you actually wear them, they will probably break after about 20 minutes or so, and you will have an ordinary pair of shoes.
The story of the shoes is featured in episode 9 of cockeyed.com's mildly successful "incredible stuff I made", and the auction winner will also receive a printout of the spring shoes article...signed by the author!
springs on your shoes is dangerous. It adds a random element to your
walking and standing. but it certainly seemed like they were having an
effect on my jumping.
|Just walking through the park, holding the shoes in my hands I got a
lot of attention.
The shoes are also autographed, but not on the outside, you know, if you are embarrased to wear them with a big name on the side.
|Here you can see my full weight crushing the springs flat. To actually support my weight, I think would have needed about 10 bedsprings on each foot, but they still provided lift.
The springs are about 4" tall when uncompressed.
The springs have a few sharp edges, so they aren't really suitable for hardwood floors or inflatable jump-castles.
