This race took place on Saturday, March 22nd, the day before Easter. Presumably this was a busy day for pizza delivery joints, with Lent ending and March Madness beginning. Nick ran into a little trouble at Papa Murphy's. His pizza was ready, but they had forgotten to add the mushrooms! This was easily remedied, because the pizza was still raw, but precious seconds ticked away while they fixed the error.

Before Nick and Alicia could return, our winner cruised across the finish line. Pizza Hut! The delivery man was confronted with a round of applause and rewarded with a generous 91 cent tip. Pizza Hut : 24 minutes We had only waited 24 minutes, 10 minutes less than their telephone estimate! Fantastic!

Odie, who had placed the call to Pizza Hut, rejoiced, and lifted out the first slice. He filled his heart and mouth with the delicious taste of victory. |

A minute later, Nick and Alicia arrived with the pizza from Papa Murphys. I was stunned at this development, and I think Nick was too.
There was now only one way for the Papa Murphy's pizza to win the race: Nick would have to eat the whole thing raw. |

It was a beautiful pizza, I have to admit. Take-n-bake pizzas arrive on a mysterious heat-proof, oven-ready paper. We unwrapped it and prepared to dangle it in the white-hot focal point of the light sharpener.
Oh, no no, the sun was down, so we used the oven. |

At the 29 minute mark, with the Papa Murphy's pizza cooking in our oven, Pizza Guys arrived with a large pepperoni and mushroom pizza. Hooray! They took second place and had beaten their delivery estimate by 15 minutes! Pizza Guys : 29 minutes We congratulated him on his silver medal, and tipped 87 cents. |

The first two pizzas. Pizza Hut on the left, Pizza Guys on the right. The Pizza Guys delivered a better pizza. The toppings covered the pie right to the edge, the crust was delicious and I'd swear their pizza was bigger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ten minutes later, the oven timer announced that the Papa Murphy's pizza was finally cooked and ready to eat. Forty one minutes had passed from the time that Nick had placed his call. Papa Murphy's : 41 minutes I tipped the oven $4. (I know, this is more than the other pizza guys, but I have to live with this oven). |

The party continued. We ate most of the pizzas and moved on to birthday cake. "Where is Round Table?" we asked each other, checking the time. Eventually a knock at the door alerted us to the arrival of the fourth and final pizza. It was a delivery guy from Round Table! 70 minutes had passed since we had placed the order. We had waited so long that we weren't mad at him, we were just happy that he was alive. Round Table Pizza : 70 minutes We didn't manage to snap his picture. I guess he saved up all of his speed for that one moment of camera-dodging. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Round Table pizza was "Hawaiian": ham and pineapple wedges. It looked excellent, although I didn't have any because I was already eating dessert by the time it arrived.

The experiment was a success! The late addition of Pizza Hut and Pizza Guys had definitely changed the results. These were two great pizzas which were baked and delivered in a shockingly short time span, for about $20 each. Take and Bake was slower than these, but not the slowest, and only about half of the price. Round Table, well they were just as good as Pizza Guys, and only about half the speed. They might call themselves the last honest pizza, but in our experience, they are just the last pizza. |
